Quebrada, Laguna and Churup Mountain Cordillera Blanca Day Hikes in Peru.
The Huaraz-Pitec-Laguna Churup trail is a classic trek from Huaraz; the round trip generally takes one day. Laguna Churup is one of the most beautiful lakes of the Cordillera Blanca – a jewel at the foot of Nevado Churup (5493m) which can be seen from Huaraz. A visit is a must!

Skirt round Laguna Churup by the right bank, keeping to the ridges. Follow the trail among rock slabs and a moraine (cairns). Skirt a rocky crag then seracs to reach the foot of couloirs which leads to the base of the route. Cross a bergschrund and gain the foot of the face.
Start by climbing the gully on the right side of the face – 3 or 4 pitches of steep mixed climbing (80/90°). At the foot of a snow slope, start climbing towards the left to the top of a rocky spurs et the foot of an ice runnel. Climb the left bank of the couloirs (60/65°). Below the summit gain the ridge and climb to the top.
Descent: easy snow and rock on the S ridge. At e small col, before a long horizontal section of the ridge, start the descent. 5 or 6 abseils will be necessary to reach the bottom of the face ( take ice screws, stakes, pitons).
