|PERU AMAZING ADVENTURES: SUPER HOLIDAY IN PERU
|PERU CORDILLERA BLANCA
The Cordillera Blanca.- commonly referred to as the Peruvian Andes, the Cordillera Blanca is the world´s highest tropical mountain range. Few people realize that, within this compact range, there are 25 peaks above 6,000 meters (19,686 feet). 15 of these soar above 6,096 meters (20,000 feet). And another 35 above 5,700 meters (18,700 feet). The Cordillera Blanca is capped by Nevado Huascaran, at 6,768 meters (22,205 feet). Of all the mountains in the western hemisphere, only 6, 959-meters Aconcagua (22,832 feet) and three of its neighbors in the Chilean – Argentina Andes stand higher.
The Cordillera Blanca is 180 kilometers long and only 20 kilometers wide. It runs roughly north-northwest to south-southeast and is parallel to the pacific coastline; which is only 100 kilometers away to the west. Almost the entire range is glaciated, and because it forms the continental divide of Peru, waters on its eastern slopes flow through the Amazon Basin to the Atlantic Ocean, while the western slopes drain into the pacific. Due to global warming and the Blanca´s latitude of only nine degrees south of the equator, many of the glaciers have, in recent decades, drastically receded to such a degree that they rarely extend much below 4,800 meters. This means that the valleys below are covered by grass instead of ice
The Cordillera Blanca is an incredible destination for trekking and climbing tours in Peru. It has abundant native flora and fauna, is culturally rich, has fascinating ruins of several pre-Inca cultures, and preserves some remnants of Inca infrastructure as well.
The Cordillera Blanca, located in the north of Peru, has a tremendous concentration of 6000m peaks. The mountains run roughly north to south and are easily accessible from the Callejon de Huaylas (Huaylas Valley), which lies to their west.
In 1975, the Cordillera Blanca or Yurak Jirca (in the Quechua language), “The highest tropical mountain range in the world”, was declared Huascaran National park In 1977 and 1985 UNESCO declared this protected area as “Biosphere Reserve” and “Natural Heritage” respectivel
The main Climbing , Trekking season runs from May to the beginning of September. This is the dry season – and Peru´s winter. During these months, the Blanca will generally have one-to two-week periods of clear, sunny weather, especially in June and Jully – August is a month of change, with increasing winds and frequent afternoon storns.
Between the dramatic peaks of the Cordillera Blanca the valleys are dotted with stunning turquoise glacial lakes. Most treks follow these valleys, which run west to east through the mountains. Among these mountains and valleys is where most of the adventure travel and tours in the Peruvian Andes and in the Cordillera de los Andes in South America take place; activities like: TREKKING, HIKING, DAY HIKES, MOUNTAINEERING,CLIMBING, mountain biking, horse riding and others.
