A dirt road ascends 1350m from Yungay winding over 28km to the Llanganuco Valley and its two stunning lakes, which are also known as Laguna Chinancocha and Laguna Orconcocha. Nestled in a glacial valley just 1000m below the snow line, these pristine lagoons practically glow under the sun in their bright turquoise and emerald hues. There’s a half-hour trail hugging Chinancocha past a jetty and picnic area to where sheer cliffs plunge into the lake.
Llanganuco is a popular day trip from Huaraz although it is a six-hour drive round-trip. Continuing on the road past the lake you'll see a mirador with killer views of the mountain giants of Huascarán (6768m), Chopicalqui (6345m), Chacraraju (6108m), Huandoy (6395m) and others. The road continues over the pass of Portachuelo (4760m) to Yanama on the other side of the Cordillera Blanca.
Lake 69 and Llanganuco Lakes a Challanging Day Hike

The Lake 69, located at 4600m/15,092ft.lies just at the flank of The Pisco and Chacraraju Mountain. This is one of the most beautiful aqua colored glacial lakes in the Northern of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range. Considered by most hikers as one of the most impressive scenic day hikes in the entire Cordillera Blanca. It is truly a very unique and special place. On clear days you can look straight through its deep blue color waters, there is an incredible waterfall dropping right into the far end of the lake that makes amazing scenery to enjoy. This hike rated as medium to hard , because of the altitude and challenging hiking effort at the last section just before to reach the lake, combines and scenic mountain view of the main peaks in the Cordillera Blanca, beautiful colored lakes, reach vegetation and magnificent water falls dropping down along the valley.
The Portachuelo viewpoint is easly accessible by road and offers a spectacular panorama of some of the Cordillera Blanca´s highest summits, HUANDOY, PISCO, CHACRARAJU, CHOPICALQUI and HUASCARAN, as well as wonderful view of the Llanganuco lakes nestled in the beautiful Llanganuco valley below.

Classic Llanganuco to Santa Cruz Trek
The Classic Langanuco to Santa Cruz Trek is one of the most popular trekking routes in the Cordillera Blanca (white-mountain range). The trek takes you through fertile alpine valleys, has views of magnificent, spiraling high glaciated peaks, flower-filled meadows and glacier-fed turquoise lakes. This world-renown circuit crosses from one side of the Cordillera Blanca range to the other side Callejon de Conchucos.
